Welcome to the Wreford Family web site.
Over the last 7 or so years my grandmother, Mary Wreford Adams, my mother and I have been searching for our line of the family tree. My great great grandfather had us removed from the pedigree book due to an illegitimate child in the line and the effect it would have on family members working for the Bank of England at that time. Some what of a scandal in those days. We have gone down several avenues due to the fact the Wreford's weren't very inventive when it came to naming their children, with every generation being named after the previous. However we think we have finally cracked it!
Like many, we have a copy of the book “Records and Pedigree of the Wreford Family” second edition 1909 by George Wreford. I have come to notice a few discrepancies in the book and contradictory source information so I have decided to start from the beginning and retrace George Wreford's steps. This site has been set up to collate and display all information on the Wreford family of Devon starting with John Wrayford of Hennock born about 1440.
My aim is not only to trace every line possible of the book, based on factual evidence but to find out more about the individuals, their occupations, where they lived, to share photographs of people and places and individual and family stories. I have set myself a deadline of July 2012 to tie in with my grandmothers 90th birthday. I would like to publish a third edition of the book, not only with charts but with all the other information collected on this web site and the 100 years since the last edition to present to her on her birthday.
This is where you come in. I think I may need a little help with this task. Any information or copies of documents or samplers, or photographs that you may have and would like to share would very much be appreciated. We have a few birth/death and marriage certificates that can be viewed (living certificates are not displayed but listed) as well as census information, photos of the Devon parish churches and gravestones, family photographs, samplers, heir looms, letters, wills and school and training certificates.
I guess like us, who have a few of the above, there are lots of Wreford gems around the country and I would like to share these on this site with all the current Wreford Family.
If you would like to add to this site or have any information you would like to share I would love to hear from you. Please contact me at bev@wrefordfamilytree.co.uk.
Thanks
Bev
